Soriano, a former outfielder, was moved to the hill when it became obvious he couldn't hit. Considered the second best arm in the organization, Soriano can hit the mid-90s on the gun and has a nasty slider. The club believes he can become a front-line starter when he finds a consistent third pitch.

May 9, 2002 Soriano was called up from Double-A San Antonio to fill the vacant slot in the bullpen created by Jeff Nelson's trip to the operating table.

May 25, 2002 Soriano makes his first major league start against the Baltimore Orioles.
